Yesterday I took Shelby to the Bobbi Brown counter at Dillard's for her first taste of make-up. She'll soon be 13 (can you believe it?!?) and it was getting to be that time---time for make-up! I didn't want her to have the trouble I had when I first started wearing make-up in the late-80's. You know, where you matched your eye shadow to your shirt color...bright green, blue, or purple anyone? And I didn't want her to look "made-up." I remember feeling so cool when people came up to me right after I started wearing make-up and said something like, "Oh...Jennifer...you're wearing make-up now, aren't you?!?" It wasn't until much later that I realized that some of those weren't actually compliments.
So, I took her to a place where they could help her see that we still want HER to shine through. (And let's face it...she'll listen to a stranger at the make-up counter much more readily than she would to me!) So, a great guy, Ryan, helped her along. Just very minimal for now--we got her the tinted moisturizer with SPF, a shimmer brick she can use for blush (and eye shadow later), lip gloss, and mascara. The combined effect is very subtle, but pretty. And she is THRILLED to joining the ranks of make-up wearing girls!
TOGETHER... We make a FAMILY...
