High school opens up a whole new level of activities to participate in! Shelby has wanted to be a Dazzler for quite a while, and we were so happy for her last spring when, after a lengthy try-out process, we learned she had made the team. In order to be a Dazzler, you have to be in the band and know how to play an instrument. You have to pass off all the required marching music in additon to learning your flag and dance routines. These are much stricter requirements than when I twirled a flag in my day! :) This is in addition to keeping good grades and staying out of trouble (fortunately this part isn't hard for Shelby!).
There was a two week band camp before school started. The first week they were there from 8:30 a.m. till 9:oo p.m., and the second week was just during the day. Shelby was so tired, but learned a lot and was able to make new friends and familiarize herself a little with the high school. At the end of the second week, they held a demonstration of all they had learned at camp. It was downtown "on the bricks."
Shelby marching in...
They had a part where kids could have their parent or another adult take their instrument and the student had to teach the adult some marching steps and commands. I was with Shelby, but managed to snap a picture of Travis and Abby who were being instructed by Nick and Avery, two kids from church who play the trumpet.
Shelby in marching parade formation...
Here is Shelby on the day of the first football game. All of the Dazzlers got together to paint "spirit pants" that they wear on Fridays (Spirit Day). Shelby was really happy with how hers turned out. Can you tell?

We finally got Papa to go to a game this past Friday!
I couldn't get a close up shot that wasn't blurry! Shelby is the 5th girl from the left (she's got her arms out to the sides)--this is pregame when they do the National Anthem and fight song.
So proud of our Dazzler!
