Last Thursday, while the girls were on Spring Break, mom and dad took us up to Cordele, Georgia to ride the SAM Shortline. (SAM stands for Savannah-Americus-Montgomery---the main towns the train went through originally.) Travis was busy at work, so maybe he'll get to join us the next time. We had to get up super early to make it up there on time, but it was worth it. We all had a great time! The train was very comfortable, and riding through all of these small towns was really neat. We went right over Lake Blackshear where we had taken the girls last summer. Mom took the girls into the Telephone Museum in Leslie, GA, while dad and I checked out an antique store. They got to see the evolution of the telephone since its invention, and grandma got to show the girls the kind of phone she had when grandpa called her up to ask her on their very first date. It was a neat place.
We spent the most time in Plains, GA, the home of President Jimmy Carter. We had lunch at Mom's Diner--the place where he took Paula Deen to eat when she visited him there. The food was really good...with the exception of Shelby's fried chicken sandwich. I wish that we would have gotten a picture of her face when they brought out her food. They evidently took "fried chicken sandwich" very literally because when her meal came out it was two pieces of fried chicken (the wings) between two pieces of white bread--bones and all. We all had a good laugh and tried to make the best of it. Emily gave up her chicken fingers to put on the bread, and I gave Emily some of my chicken breast. It was funny! But then we redeemed ourselves by going to a place on the main street for some delicious homemade peanut butter ice cream. It was delicious!!!
A fun day for us all...except Travis. :o)
