Two Things I Love About Thomasville

There are lots of reasons that I love my new hometown, but here are two that have stuck out during this past week...

1.) The kids have "tug of wars" at their field days. Last week, when my aunt and uncle were visiting, my uncle told me about his school's field day. (He works at a school in Naples.) He said that this year, they no longer have tug of "war" because that might be offensive to someone. So, instead, they now have "tug of ROPE"--how insane is that? Am I the only one that thinks that our society has swung WAY TOO FAR in the wrong direction??? I am all for inclusion and not making people feel uncomfortable on purpose, but don't you think that sometimes we go way overboard on this? I love this smaller town, where people aren't so hyper-sensitive to everything! We even pray after all of the girls soccer/softball games (granted it's through the YMCA, but still...)

2.) On Monday, the girls and I went down to Tallahassee to meet Travis after work. We took the girls to see Horton Hears a Who (btw, cute movie!). After that, we went to Carrabba's for dinner--a real splurge for us, but Trav had gotten a gift card, so it was okay. Well, we got there about 7:30, and we walked right in and were seated!!! We had a nice dinner and were on our way about an hour later. Now, I love Naples, and really miss it at times, but this would NEVER have happened there! There is always a huge line--season or no season--and we have waited up to an hour and a half at restaurants there before. To get right in was so great, and even though it's a 35-minute drive from Thomasville, it's nice to be in a city that's not always so crazy crowded!

Okay, that's all the posting for today...back to the couch for me!

Welcome to small town America! We are also in a very small place, and I have grown to love it. All of Erin's teachers in the public school have been Christians, and even talk about God/Christ in the classroom some. A couple of years ago, Erin's kindergarten Easter egg hunt was held at our local park. All of Blossom's kindergarten (about 65 students) walked with their teachers to the city park and hunted eggs. Talk about Norman Rockwell!

Hey Jen! I just found your blog through Elaine's...I can't believe how big the girls are. We miss seeing you down here! I have to say I am a little jealous of your "being seated immediately"...as you know we are enjoying the snowbirds as we speak! I just made my blog private - but if you're interested you can give me your email address and I'll stick you on the list. -Melica

Melica just gave me your blog address and I'm so glad I found you! The girls are so grown up. I was just reliving my ant bite incident the other day and thought of you (but not the ants) fondly. It'll be fun to keep in touch!
