Back to School

The alarm clocks went off early this morning in the Mitchell house--5:15 for mom, and 6:00 for the girls. We all wanted to make sure that we were on time for the first day, so those times will probably be moved back about 15 minutes in the coming days, but it was early!

Travis was able to stay home and take the girls with me, and it was so nice to have his help in the morning! Traffic was a zoo, but hopefully it will taper off in the next few weeks as more people put their kids on the bus instead of driving them.

I am really missing the girls today, but I have to say that I have gotten a lot done here in a quiet house. I still have more to do, though, so that the girls and I can have a relaxing afternoon and evening once they get home. I really try to get all of my "work" done while they are at school so that I don't have to worry about it when they are home.

For the first time, I let the girls completely choose their back to school outfits themselves with no "suggestions" from mom. It was hard to give up that control, but I have realized that they are growing up and I need to let them make more decisions on their own. I think that they all did a pretty good job!

Wow, school already! I am sooo proud of you for letting the girls make their own clothes choices. (They looked great, by the way.) I am going to try to learn from you - I have control issues too and I am beginning to realize that Lexy could make a lot of decisions on her own - if I would just let her. Thanks for your great example!

Fast Summer - tomorrow is the big day for us. We had orientation today. Your girls looked so cute. If they love clothes as much as mine do - it is a big deal to choose everything - including accessories!!

Your girls look so cute. I can't wait to see what my girls dress themselves in when school starts! LOL Let's just say their outfits fairly regularly have me raising my eyebrows. :)

Cute girls--boy, did this summer just sail by? It seems like the kids just got out of school.

I'm halfway done with Breaking Dawn. I wish I could hold out and read it s-l-o-w-l-y, but I just can't. I'm sad that the saga is coming to an end, but it's been a great ride. I'm sure I'll re-read them all again in a few years. (I've already re-read the first 3 and I plan to re-read Breaking Dawn when I'm through--but I'm just not good at suspense and I don't want to find out inadvertantly how the story ends. So, I'm better off reading like a crazy woman the first time and savoring it later.

Then all we have to do is wait for "Twilight" to come out in the theatres! :-)

Jennifer, the girls do look cute. I let the boys pick out their outfits, but I think I may have given some suggestions. Yeahit's a hard thing to let them pick themselves. I have to let them ride the bus because of having my daycare kids get to my house at 7:30, my alarm went off at 6, and that has been an adjustment. I was enjoying the extra 45 minutes of sleep this summer not having to get up till 6:45. Have you started Breaking Dawn yet? My mom just finished hers today. I'm almost done with Eclipse. But I have to read the bookclub book too, so it's been crazy. See ya tomorrow at church.

The girls look so cute! You did good letting them pick out their outfits. Remember how many phone conversations we had about our outfits for the 1st day of 6th grade? I still remember what I wore that day! Erin & Ryan start school in 2 weeks, and I have to admit, I have given them a few "suggestions" on what they will wear!

Your girls look absolutely proud of the outfits they picked out....as they should!!!! There is something special about that first day back to school. This will be our last year to experience that. Enjoy every minute (okay...most of the minutes) you have with them!!!!

jen,
The girls look great! I would let my boys pick out their own clothes but you should see Justin when he gets dressed without help. It really is funny. In fact I put a full length mirror in their bathroom in hopes it will help.
