Getting older, but still my little girl

Today I went to have lunch with Abby and Shelby. Abby knew I was coming to her school and is still at the age where she is thrilled to see me. We had a great time sitting with her classmates, and I enjoyed getting to know some of them. After lunch, I had just enough time to get to Shelby's school for her lunch time. She didn't know I was coming (I didn't tell her in case it didn't work out and, also, I wasn't sure what her reaction would be).

I was nervous when I got there because now that she's in 6th grade I wasn't sure if she'd want me to come or not. Well, when she walked into the cafeteria, she saw me and ran over and gave me a big hug and kiss. I got a little teary-eyed, but tried to cover it up. We sat with some of her friends, and then when she had to go back to class, she gave me another hug and kiss. I am so grateful that she is not too big for that! She is such a sweet girl, and I am often too hard on her. When we have our "alone time" I try to tell her that I realize this and that I am trying to work on it. I was a first child myself, so I know that it can be tough for her, but I also remind her that this is my first time as the parent of a girl her age, too. We are learning together. As long as we can stay that way (together) I think we'll be okay!

Precious! Your kids are still at those perfect ages. I loved these years with my kids....ahhh, the memories!

And, I've had similar talks with my kids too---I just told them they didn't come with instruction manuals!! :-)

Keep taking advantage of these moments. They disappear before you know it (yah, I've stooped to the old lady comments---but now I KNOW they are true. ;->)

Awww Jenn, I know that feeling too. Thanks for sharing this. It's a great feeling when your children are still proud of you. I know that someday they might feel embarrassed...so I enjoy it now and try to get ready for the day when I hear, "Mooommmm, don't hold my hand!" or "Mooommm, no kissing!" :)
