Not so Funny, Fay

You all know the saying, "It's all fun and games till someone gets hurt," right? Well, I came to understand that more last evening. We spent the early afternoon yesterday playing in the rain that Fay brought us (see previous post), but last night we had this rather large tree come crashing down in our backyard. We are very blessed that it wasn't any taller or it might have come through the windows and into the house.
Emily and Elder Williams had been playing a game of "Guess Who?" when she said, "Look! A tree got blown down!" He thought she meant that there were trees blowing in the wind, but when he looked it was an actual tree. The girls, of course, started running around the house screaming, and all of the men went outside (in the pouring rain!) to "investigate." I had been in the other room with an ice pack on my back till I can get to the chiropractor on Monday, but when I came in and saw it, I couldn't believe it! I do feel very blessed that no damage was done to our house.
At church today, we found out about others who are in need and a good friend and her husband whose home is flooded with about 4-5 feet of water. In the paper today was a story about a 12-year-old boy who was out with some of his friends yesterday near a lake and who was sucked in and died. A man who tried to jump in and save him is now in critical condition. It is scary what can happen in the blink of an eye. I am thankful that our damage was minor and ask you to pray for those who weren't so fortunate this time.

Wow - you are lucky - we have lost 6 trees due to storms/lightning in 6 years. Each of them have come inches from our house. Pretty scary!

P.S. Happy belated b-day! I have that card - stamped and all - in my bag - it will be late but know I was thinking of you yesterday!

We miraculously had a huge pecan tree fall down and barely miss our carport and two cars. Now it's underwater--ho hum. But, really, we do count our blessings. Things could be far worse.

I am just so thrilled that that tree came down where it did at your house. We both have experienced miracles! :-)

Thanks Jenn for all your wonderful and kind comments. I really appreciate you and the Bishop. Despite how bad I looked and smelled, he gave me a hug. That meant so much.

And, thanks for your prayers!

Linda

Oh--and forgive me for my lack of sensitivity---I hope your back is doing better. Also, thanks for all your nice comments and offers to help. I truly appreciate it. :-) But, most precious to us right now are your continued prayers for us and our neighbors, many of whom are in deeper trouble than us.

Thanks Jenn--you are a great friend and I appreciate you so much!
Love,
Linda

PS. It sounds like you had a birthday--happy belated birthday!!

Thomasville made Atlanta's local news! I heard last night that you all got the most rainfall in the state - like almost 30"? Lucky you. I hope everyone down your way is okay. And hopefully your back is better too.

Jenn, I am so glad that it didn't hit your home - and that you guys weren't out playing in the rain again when it happened.

Just wanted to let you know that little ol' Thomasville, Georgia was on our LOCAL news...not the national news but our local news. They were talking about the huge amount of rain that you have received. We sure hope that everyone is safe and please know that our prayers are with you.
