In mid-January, we took the girls to the local skating rink one Saturday afternoon. You can't beat the price--$5.00 for a 5-hour session. We only stayed for about 2 and a half hours, but while we were there, I was transported back to my youth. My friend, Melanie (see a few posts down), and I spent many nights at our skating rink during those middle school years. And even though that was a LONG time ago, I realized that day that some things truly do never change:

My friend, Melanie (see a few posts down), and I spent many nights at our skating rink during those middle school years. And even though that was a LONG time ago, I realized that day that some things truly do never change:
1. All skating rinks seem to be aluminum buildings
2. The bathrooms still have that indescribable odor
3. The bathrooms have cinder block walls
4. They still play four corners
5. They still have a tiny disco ball hanging from the center of the ceiling
6. "Suicide" is still a drink flavor--all the flavors of soda combined
7. They have the 80's video games lining one wall
8. Reverse skate (going the opposite way around the rink) is still cool
9. Lots of people still don't know how to stop themselves, so they go full throttle into a carpeted wall and then stop
10. And finally....there is still that kinda creepy "older" guy in a referee shirt skating all over the place and mid-teenage girls following him around like puppies---UGH!!!
Good times! :)

LOL! Although I was an ice skater--your description of the rink was right on! :-)
That is hilarious! I wish we lived near a skating rink so I could take the kids. Your list was great!
