Friends Forever

Okay, I am serious about catching up on this blog. I have really let things slide lately, and this is my symbolic attempt to get my life back on track.

So, with that....

Back in December, a few days before Christmas my good friend Melanie and her family came to visit her mom and dad in Tallahassee. I was super excited to see her and to catch up! We met the summer before 6th grade, and all through middle school we were inseparable. I look back on that time feeling so grateful that I had such a good friend and a good person to lean on through those difficult "middle school" years. We ended up going to different high schools and that was definitely an adjustment for me. I really wish we could've been together during those years, too! We kept in touch on and off during college, but eventually "lost" each other. Once Trav and I moved back to Naples, I was thrilled one evening to hear her voice on the other end of a ringing telephone. She had found me! It was great! We have been in touch (albeit occasionally) since then, and have been able to see each other a few times as well when she would visit her family in Naples.

As luck would have it, her parents moved to Tallahassee--several years before our move, though--which is only about 30 minutes south of Thomasville. So, when they came for Christmas we made plans to get together for lunch. I was so nervous before seeing her--it had been a while, and I certainly didn't look like the girl I had once been. But my fears were completely unfounded. We had such a great time together!!! We chatted all through our yummy lunch at Olive Garden and, much to the waiter's dismay I'm sure, an hour after we were finished eating. She brought her daughter, Erin, (her son, Ryan, decided to skip a girl's lunch to spend the day with his dad--smart boy!) and my girls had a great time talking to her. Both Melanie's mom and my mom came as well, and were just as engrossed in talking to each other as we were.

I suppose there are just certain people you "click" with and for me, Melanie is definitely one of those. I do wish she lived closer--Texas is a bit of a drive--but I guess this way when we do get to see each other, it's more special. I can't wait till the next visit!

Erin was reading this post with me and when we got to our 10th grade picture I squealed and she DIED laughing!!!:) I tried to explain to her purple was cool in 1990. Thanks so much for including us on your blog--friends forever is the perfect title. I remember our middle school years so fondly, and I pray that Erin will have the same special bond of friendship with someone someday! Love Ya!! :)
